Evolution of photosynthetic organisms in geological time. Of particular interest is the early evolution of life on earth, the interrelationships among Precambrian crustal, atmospheric and biological evolution; the early fossil record of plankton; and the application of taphonomy, paleoecology, and biostratigraphy to evolutionary studies of the early fossil record. Interest also in the fossil record of vascular plant evolution, particularly Paleozoic plants and quantitative approaches to paleobotany.
